The lungs are part of a complex system that expands and relaxes thousands of times each day to supply oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Lung disease can occur when there are problems with any of body systems.

There are two types of respiratory diseases and disorders: infectious and chronic. Lung infections are most often bacterial or viral. In the virus type, pathogens replicate inside cells, causing flu-like diseases. Chronic diseases such as asthma are persistent and long-lasting. It can recur, the patient can be relieved, and the symptoms reappear later.

Many people do not realize that Eastern medicine has long been used for the common cold. At the first signs of a cold, such as chills, a scratchy throat, body aches, or a stuffy nose, acupuncture and an individualized herbal formula may help ease symptoms and support your body’s recovery. Care is tailored to your symptoms and how far along the cold is. Results vary from person to person. If you have a high fever, trouble breathing, or symptoms that keep getting worse, please see your physician or seek urgent care.
