Frequently Asked Questions

JP Acupuncture - Your Health & Wellness Solution

Answers to the questions new patients ask us most. Don't see your question? Call us at (714) 714-6632.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most patients feel little to nothing when the needles go in — acupuncture needles are hair-thin, solid, and much finer than a needle used for injections. You may notice a dull ache, warmth, or heaviness at the point, which is normal. Many people find their sessions relaxing.

Are the needles safe?

Yes. We use only sterile, single-use, disposable needles. Each needle is opened from a sealed package, used once, and discarded, following California clean-needle standards.

Do you take my insurance?

We accept most major insurance plans, including plans administered by American Specialty Health (ASH), as well as workers' compensation and auto-accident (personal injury) cases. Call us at (714) 714-6632 with your insurance card, and we will verify your acupuncture benefits before your first visit.

Do you bill Medicare?

We do not bill Medicare directly. Self-pay options are available — please call us for details.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

Usually not. Some insurance plans have their own requirements, and we will check them for you when we verify your benefits.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on how long you have had the problem and how your body responds. We usually recommend about five visits before we evaluate your progress, and then we review your goals together. Results vary from person to person.

What happens at my first visit?

You will fill out an intake form, and then we review your health history, assess the problem area, and begin treatment. Your first visit takes longer than follow-up visits, so please plan a little extra time.

What should I wear?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be rolled up above the knees and elbows. Please eat a light meal 1–2 hours before your visit rather than coming in on an empty stomach.

Do you treat auto-accident or work injuries?

Yes. We see patients for injuries from car accidents and work incidents, and we provide the treatment records your attorney, claims adjuster, or treating physician needs.

Does acupuncture replace my regular medical care?

No. Acupuncture is not a substitute for medical care, and we work alongside your physician. We never ask patients to stop or change prescribed medications — please consult your prescribing physician before making any medication changes.

What are your hours?

Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 7 PM. Saturday appointments are available by appointment only.

Where are you located?

We are at 3816 Woodruff Ave, Suite 205, Long Beach, CA 90808. If this is your first visit, call us at (714) 714-6632 and we will walk you through parking and finding our suite.

Do you speak Korean?

Yes — 한국어 상담 가능합니다. Care is available in both English and Korean.
